05:47   Dear Santa ...  Add post to quote pad

HEALTH CARE REFORM…OR NOT—We’re pretty sure what we’re going to end up with here won’t have been worth the effort. We may end up with some change but certainly not with any reform and such change as there is will be paltry. American has wasted an opportunity and more people will have to suffer for another decade or more before we go through all this again. Maybe by then Stoopid America won’t be swayed by lies and scare tactics but if common sense and honesty didn’t work this time, we can’t imagine when it will, especially if they have Sarah Palin to rally around in 2012. Here’s what one supporter said in Iowa while waiting in line since 4:30 A.M. to get his book signed when he was asked why Palin would make a good president: “She’s a down to earth person who will fight against the government. I can see her out there fishing with the guys. Plus, she’s hot.” Yep, that’s just the kind of leader America needs now. Someone you want to have sex with who fishes while undermining the institution she was elected to run. We can’t wait.

IS IT HOT IN HERE OR…?—The climate change talks in Copenhagen have dissolved into the usual rounds of speeches and street theater as protestors think they can change minds by dressing as the Four Horsemen of the Climate Apocalypse. Delegates from small, developing countries walked out of the talks to protest what they see as an unfair burden placed on them and China and the U.S. are at loggerheads over monitoring and verification procedures. China won’t allow anyone to check up on what they promise to do. President Obama will arrive toward the end of the mess to bless the proceedings, assuming, unlike health care reform here, there is anything to bless.

AFGHANISTAN—It’s being reported in the New York Times that Peter Galbraith, once the United Nation’s number two representative in Afghanistan, put forward a plan to get rid of President Hamid Karzai after the recent fraudulent election. Sent home by his boss after complaining about the election (and turning out to be correct after all in his early criticism), he reportedly approached U.S. envoy Richard Holbrooke to talk about how to remove Karzai. And why not? We removed the elected leader of Iran in the 1950s and got the Shah and later the Islamic Republic and Ahmadinejad. Then we removed Saddam and got al Qaeda in Iraq. So what could go wrong in Afghanistan?

FINALLY—… what else? Oh yeah… we’re considering a couple of sponsors for Topcurr. Both, oddly enough, involve toothpaste, the first being ImpuDent, the toothpaste for sassy mouths. And Pfizer has approached us to advertise ImpoDent as a less-obvious way for shy men to take their Viagra. We’re not sure about this (or why they thought of us, for that matter) but in these tough economic times… In any case, we wish you a Merry Christmas. May your days be merry and bright and may all your Christmases be sunny and green…
